7月12日 Standards-based ClassroomsStandards-based instruction allows teachers and students to be on the same page by specifying how teachers and students will meet their education goals, including specific concepts, order, or instructional materials (Krueger & Sutton, 2001).
Standards based education means that teaching and learning are predicated on students achieving agreed upon standards. The standards for Georgia are the Georgia Performance Standards
A standard is a statement of what we expect students to know and be able to do in a specific content area.
How will we know that they know it? We will use Standards Based Assessments and become DATA-DRIVEN TEACHERS
What will we do about it if they don’t know it? We will use the Ga. Student Achievement Pyramid of Intervention
So how do I get started in implementing Standards Based Instruction in my classroom?
Step 1: Determine what standards will be taught throughout the school year and when they will be taught.
Step 2: Determine benchmarks and assessments to measure student progress toward meeting the standards.
Step 5: Decide what to teach, how to teach it, and what materials to use.
Step 6: Provide learning opportunities with ongoing assessments and interventions.
Step 7: Score and analyze student work to determine which students achieved what results.
Step 8: Share the results.
Step 9: Use data to inform future instructional practice.
Step 10: Begin again with another standard armed with information about what worked and what did not.
